Is there a lunch more pleasing to a kid (or an adult, to be honest) than a good old PB&J? We thought not…until we met the grilled peanut butter and jelly. It’s ooey and gooey in all the right ways and just the upgrade to make you parent of the year.

The best part about this sandwich, other than being a cinch to make, is that you can customize it with any nut butter and jam you want. We’re suckers for the classic smooth PB and seedless black raspberry jam, but the sky’s the limit. Just make sure you have napkins at the ready.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened

2 slices sandwich bread

2 tablespoons peanut butter or other nut butter

1 tablespoon jam, jelly or fruit preserves

Directions

1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Spread the butter on one side of each slice of bread. Spread the peanut butter on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread. Repeat with the jelly on the remaining slice of bread. Assemble the sandwich with the peanut butter and jelly inside.

2. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Flip the sandwich and cook until the second side is golden brown, about 5 minutes more. Remove from the skillet, cool slightly and cut into triangles before serving.
