Caramelized Onion Burger with Herbed Dijon
Cheeseburgers are so last summer. This year, step up your grilling game with this one-of-a-kind burger using Private Selection Bacon Cheddar Fresh Angus Beef Patties as the base. Top with homemade caramelized onions, herbed Dijon sauce and Cheddar Gruyère Cheese. The best part? It’s sandwiched between a delicious Pretzel Hamburger Bun.
Ingredients
Caramelized Onions
1 large red onion, sliced ½-inch thick
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
Burgers
¼ cup Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
4 Private Selection Pretzel Hamburger Buns, toasted
2 cups baby arugula
Directions
1. Make the caramelized onions: Prepare a grill or grill pan for medium-high heat. Sprinkle the onions evenly on both sides with the sugar. Place on the grill and allow to char and slightly soften until the onion caramelizes slightly, about 3 minutes per side. Set aside while you prepare the burgers.
2. Make the burgers: In a small bowl, stir together the Dijon mustard, parsley and chives. Set aside.
3. Heat a large cast iron skillet, grill pan or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers for about 4 minutes on one side, then flip, place a piece of cheese on top and cook with the lid down, about 5 minutes more for medium-rare to medium (or until the meat reaches your desired doneness). Transfer to a plate to rest for 5 minutes.
4. To assemble the burgers, spread some of the herbed mustard on the bottom half of each toasted pretzel bun. Top with the cooked Private Selection Bacon Cheddar Fresh Angus Beef Patties, followed by the caramelized onions, a handful of arugula and the top buns.
