It’s been almost two months since Zooey Deschanel, 43, announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend, Jonathan Scott, 45, (aka one of the Property Brothers) on social media. Back in August, the New Girl alum confirmed the exciting news by posting an IG selfie with her future hubby, where her gorgeous engagement ring was on full display.

But before they make it to the altar, Deschanel is thinking back to the moment she knew Scott was the one for her.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Deschanel recalled the time she and Scott went on their first date to an escape room. “I had actually never done one, and he kept telling me how much he liked them," the 500 Days of Summer actress explained. “It sounded very much up my alley and I loved it right away.”

But she didn’t fall for him at the escape room—that moment actually happened before they went out.

As the Elf star puts it, she started falling for the Property Brother when he sent her a detailed itinerary for their first romantic outing. And for her, putting that much time and thought into their night stole her heart from the start. “I was like, ‘This is my dream,’” she added. And now, four years later, the couple are about to enter a new chapter of their lives together.

Deschanel and Scott first met while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series in August 2019. Later that year, the singer and actress confirmed their relationship on Instagram by posting a snap of herself jumping into her man’s arms.

When you know, you know.
