The engagement shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to fans of the New Girl actress, 43, and the Property Brothers star, 45, especially since the couple hasn’t been shy about showing PDA. Still, ever since they posted the proposal photos on social media, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about her engagement ring and how much it cost.
That’s why we turned to Zack Stone (diamond expert at U.K. retailer Steven Stone), who analyzed photos of the ring before sharing details about the accessory regarding the diamonds and the price tag. “Thanks to its unique design, Zooey’s engagement ring from Jonathan stands out from the crowd and is sure to receive a lot of attention,” he said.

1. What Does It Look Like?
Stone confirmed that the ring features not one, not two, but three gems. “Zooey’s ring features three large stones—two diamonds and what appears to be a purple sapphire,” he said. “Associated with wisdom, love, compassion and forgiveness, purple sapphires are thought to bring their wearer good fortune and spiritual insight.”
Stone continued, “Two of the stones are in flower patterns, whilst the third resembles a star. Smaller pink stones—likely to be pink sapphires—are attached to the ring’s outer corners.”
2. Is There a Hidden Meaning?
Stone shared the special meaning behind the arrangement, adding, “Flowers have long been gifted as a symbol of love, friendship and affection. Thus, it’s safe to say that Jonathan’s choice to include flower patterns was a romantic one that encapsulates the couple’s loving relationship.”

3. How Much Did It Cost?
Stone explained that Deschanel’s ring is likely more affordable than other celebrity rings, mainly because it features three smaller stones (versus one large one). “As Zooey’s ring doesn’t feature any individual large stones, I wouldn’t estimate it to have an overly high price tag,” he said. “It’s likely to be worth $10,000 (£8,000)—making it one of the least valuable celebrity engagement rings of 2023, so far.”
