Wait, What Does Zooey Deschanel Have to Do With ‘The Lion King’?

Some Hollywood dynasties we are well acquainted with, like Kate Hudson and her parents, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson. But there is one family we were unaware of as a movie and television powerhouse until now: the Deschanels.

Turns out it’s not just his daughters, Zooey and Emily, who are well known in the industry.  Mr. Deschanel himself holds a pretty prestigious job, too: the director of photography for the new live-action remake of The Lion King. Who knew?

Shortly after the first full-length trailer for the new Lion King film was released, Zooey Deschanel took to Instagram to give a shout-out to her dad, Caleb, who is the director of photography on the epic project. Frankly, we had no idea the father of Jessica Day and Temperance Brennan was involved in the industry at all, but that’s not the only surprise we discovered about this artistic family.

Mary Jo Deschanel, the actresses’s mother, also boasts a successful acting career that began with a role opposite Ed Harris in the 1983 film The Right Stuff, and most recently includes the part of Eileen Hayward in Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces. Looks like the apples fell extremely close to the very talented tree.

Just as Zooey expressed her excitement to see the movie when it hits screens on July 19, 2019, we are also counting down the days until we finally get to hear James Earl Jones reprise his role as Mufasa. Though really, we just can’t wait to be king to see if we’ll be gifted with a song or two from Queen Bey as the lion queen, Nala…
