‘Westworld’ Meets ‘Game of Thrones’: Yes, that Was a Dragon in Last Night’s ‘WW’ Episode

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Last night’s episode of Westworld teased a questionable future for Maeve (Thandie Newton). And in the midst of the chaos, we nearly missed a brief—yet potentially meaningful—Game of Thrones reference that HBO snuck into the installment.

The scene takes place toward the end of season three, episode two and features Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) visiting the Delos headquarters, where employees run tests, reprogram hosts and brainstorm new ideas for amusement parks.

When they approach an area dedicated to a new Medieval-like “attraction,” we couldn’t help but notice that Drogon (one of Daenerys Targaryen’s beloved dragons from Game of Thrones) is lying in a glass chamber. To top it off, GoT showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are playing the Delos techs.

The moment didn’t contribute much to the episode’s storyline, which is why it almost went unnoticed. While it could mean nothing, we can’t help but wonder if HBO is teasing a bigger plot. We already know that Delos has other theme parks—like Shogunworld—but maybe we aren’t connecting the dots correctly.

Like, did Game of Thrones somehow exist within one of Delos’s worlds? And is Dolores’s futuristic Los Angeles just another one of their simulations? Our brain hurts just thinking of the possibilities.

Westworld returns to HBO next Sunday, March 29.

Is Caleb (aka Aaron Paul) the New Teddy on ‘Westworld’?
