The First Trailer for Robert Eggers’s ‘The Lighthouse’ Is Here & We Don’t Know What to Think

The brand-new trailer for Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse is making our skin crawl for all the right reasons.

Production company A24 just dropped the first full-length trailer for the psychological thriller, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.

Similar to Eggers’s 2016 directorial debut (The Witch), The Lighthouse offers a black-and-white look at a classic horror story, so ready thy very comforting movie snacks.

OK, it’s important to point out that we’re not entirely sure what’s going on in the trailer. Not only does it have loads of thick accents and slang, but the cinematography is also really, really dark.

What we do know is The Lighthouse takes place in the 1890s. Pattinson and Dafoe play two lighthouse keepers, who are assigned to a mysterious New England island, where they’re faced with a series of strange events.

No, really. The teaser shows a montage of scenes featuring a squid strangling Pattinson, a mysterious sea creature swimming away, water bursting through the window and the keepers uncovering secrets that were supposed to stay buried.

“How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,” Dafoe asks Pattinson.

Although The Lighthouse premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, it will hit theaters on October 18.

Ready or not, here it comes…
