Crate & Barrel Just Launched a Restaurant (So You Can Have Lunch and Buy the Table Too)

Confession: Sometimes we pay a visit to Crate & Barrel just to pretend we live in a modern, stylish and impeccably decorated home. Yep, we’re the ones pretending to eat dinner in the middle of the store.

As much as we tried to keep this a secret, word must’ve gotten out, because Crate & Barrel just announced that it’s opening The Table at Crate, a full-service restaurant, inside one of its Chicago stores.

The casual eatery—opening this month in Oak Brook, Illinois—will be open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, and yes, there will be plenty of C&B housewares to ogle. Expect the brand’s signature white dishware, mixed-finish bar carts, velvet dining chairs and marble dining tables. (The good news is you can go buy them after you pay your bill.) The space’s namesake, a 13-foot maple dining table, will be available for communal dining, large groups and culinary events like chef demos and cookbook dinners.

According to a press release, the menu takes cues from Midwestern seasonality and light, plant-based cooking. It was developed by chef Bill Kim and will feature six sections: shareable bites, garden, greens, tartines, bowls and mains. Think olive-oil-poached shrimp, a kale Caesar and cauliflower lasagna.

“We designed The Table at Crate to be a true reflection of the Crate and Barrel brand experience: simply modern, uniquely stylish and always approachable,” says Sebastian Brauer, the brand’s VP of product design and development. “We’ve created a space that is both casual and elegant, equally delightful for lunch or dinner, bringing together the things we love the most: connecting people, entertaining, creative food and timeless design.”

OK, we’re officially booking a reservation. (And then probably buying a dining set.)
