Calling all Sweet Magnolias fans! Looks like we’ll be returning to Serenity soon enough because Netflix has already renewed the series for a third season, which will premiere on July 20. Better yet, the streamer just released a brand-new trailer, which gives us a glimpse into the upcoming episodes.

Yes! Netflix already renewed Sweet Magnolias for season three. In May 2022, JoAnna García Swisher celebrated the season renewal on Instagram. While sharing a snapshot of herself standing beside her two co-stars, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley, she wrote in the caption, “We are back! Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias is happening!”
In May 2023, Swisher announced on Instagram that Sweet Magnolias season three will premiere on—drumroll, please—July 20. The 43-year-old actress shared a slideshow on Instagram featuring a selfie with her co-stars followed by the announcement picture.
Sweet Magnolias (which is based on the best-selling book series by Sherryl Woods) tells the story of three childhood best friends—Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue—who never left their hometown of Serenity, South Carolina.
Season two ended on several cliffhangers, with (spoiler alert!) Ronnie and Dana Sue reuniting. Also, fans saw the tragic death of Miss Frances (Cindy Karr) with Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue in mourning. But, nothing surprised fans more than Ryan’s proposal to Helen, which left her (and us) beyond shocked.
You bet. Netflix released an official trailer a little under a month before Sweet Magnolias is set to return, and based on the clip, it seems that season three will offer plenty more drama and romance for our fave characters.
But of course, nothing will be able to break Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue apart. “Three of us are forever,” Dana says in the trailer, before Maddie quickly adds, “And a day.”
