At the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, Suits cast members Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres reunited onstage to present the award for Best Drama TV Series. While this was a delight to see, we (and other loyal fans of the show) couldn’t help but wonder: Where was Meghan Markle?!
Meghan Markle Isn’t on the ‘Suits’ Cast Text Chain—But There’s a Good Reason Why
Wait, there's a 'Suits' group chat?!
Before making their onstage appearance, reporters caught up with Torres (who played Jessica Pearson on the drama series) on the award show’s red carpet. According to Hello! Magazine, interviewer Marc Malkin asked the 54-year-old actress if she and her Suits castmates planned the reunion prior to the ceremony.
“Suits reunion! Everywhere I look, there’s a star from Suits!” Malkin said, before asking, “Did you plan this? Are you all texting each other?” Then Torres replied, “Yeah, our text thread is insane right now!”
Unfortunately, Meghan Markle wasn’t part of the text message planning of the Suits reunion. Why, you may be wondering? According to Torres, the reason is simply because they don’t have her cellphone number. She added, “We don’t have her number. We just don’t, so… She’ll see, she’ll watch. She’ll be happy that we’re here.” We’re sure the rest of Suits cast members would’ve loved to have been there too.
Prior to becoming a member of the British royal family, Markle starred in Suits for seven seasons. When eight of the nine seasons of the legal drama debuted on Netflix in the summer of 2023, Suits experienced a new surge in popularity—which contributed to the creation of an upcoming Suits spinoff.
Although Markle wasn’t present at the Suits Golden Globes reunion, she did react to the show’s newfound popularity on Netflix. Back in November of 2023, Markle spoke to a reporter at Variety’s Power of Women event.
When asked how Suits managed to captivate a new audience years after the show concluded, the Duchess of Sussex said, “I have no idea. It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit...But it’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it. But good shows are everlasting.”
Hey, Meghan, maybe send your number to your castmates so you don’t miss the next reunion?
