Serena Williams loves giving her fans a behind-the-scenes look at her life, whether she's offering a glimpse at baby girl Adira's nursery, or she's sharing her skincare routine for her belly while pregnant. Now, the 42-year-old athlete is giving her followers a peek at her preparation for the 2023 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards, which was her first major red carpet event following the birth of her second daughter. On YouTube, she titled the video “Mom's Night Out, CFDA Fashion Awards Edition.”

"Mom's night out"
She teased the video on Instagram, with a post that read, “Get ready with me for my first event back since giving birth / CFDA Fashion Awards. Now live on my YouTube channel. [Link] in bio.”
“It's my first public event since giving birth two months ago,” Williams says at the beginning of the full video, which you can watch below. “When I was told that I was getting the CFDA Icon Award, I was like, ‘Oh my god! I actually need to get myself together.’”
Of course, Williams looked stunning when she arrived to the event in a sequin-covered black dress from Thom Browne, which featured dramatic sleeves that looked like butterfly wings. Her look, which was styled by Kesha McLeod, was elevated with jewelry from David Yurman and a watch from Audemars Piguet.
In her video, the tennis superstar gets candid about the stress she felt showing up to an event so soon after giving birth. However, she added, “I also want to represent not just me, but my daughter [Olympia], and let her know that it's okay to be how you are and look how you look.”
Williams gave birth to her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September 2017. Then, she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, 40, welcomed their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian, in August 2023.
You totally killed it, Serena.
