Serena Williams Withdraws from Australian Open with Shockingly Honest Confession

serena williams withdraws australian open

Only ten days remain until the 2018 Australian Open, and Serena Williams just dropped a major bombshell that will (probably) break your heart.

Williams took to Snapchat yesterday to reveal that she will not be defending her Australian Open title later this month. The tennis champ’s withdrawal announcement came just one week after she returned to the court for the first time since giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian.

She began, “After performing in my first match after giving birth I realized that although I am super close I’m not where I personally want to be. My coach and team always said ‘Only go to tournaments when you are prepared to go all the way.’”

In 2017, Williams won her seventh Australian Open title while she was eight-weeks pregnant. Although she won’t participate in this year’s showdown, the 36-year-old hopes to return to the court at a later date.

She continued, “However, the memory of last year’s Open is one that I will carry with me and Olympia and I look forward to coming back again. I appreciate the support and understanding of my fans and everyone at the Australian Open.”

You’re always a number one pick in our heart, Serena.
