Ryan Gosling may be “just Ken” to Barbie director Greta Gerwig, but that didn’t stop the 42-year-old actor from showering the 40-year-old filmmaker with love, song and dance.
Gosling recently arranged a special surprise in honor of Gerwig’s birthday on August 4. The actor hired a group of dancers to perform a flash mob that was set to a mashup of hits from the Barbie movie, including “I’m Just Ken” and “Dance the Night.”
Producers shared a video on the official Barbie Instagram account. The caption read, “As Kens know…. Sometimes the only way to express your feelings is through song & dance! Ken Ryan sent these special Barbies and Kens to start Greta’s birthday with all the feelings!!”
The clip featured Gerwig’s reaction to the iconic flash mob. When they stopped dancing, Gerwig said, “That was so beautiful. Who are you?” The cameraman gave her a clue, saying, “Think of a bagpiper.” At that point, Gerwig immediately knew the culprit was Gosling.
The bagpipe comment was referring to a joke that Gosling played on the Barbie cast. It all started when Margot Robbie hosted a sleepover for the Barbies and didn’t invite the Kens. So, Gosling surprised the ladies by hiring a Scottish bagpiper to crash the slumber party. (#ClassicKen)
