Here, all the royal news you need to know for the week of December 3, 2020.
- After the release of season four of Netflix's The Crown, which centers on the Prince of Wales's troubled marriage to Princess Diana and his romance with Camilla Parker Bowles, fans had quite a lot to say on Twitter. As a result, Prince Charles and Camilla have taken action by restricting comments on their Clarence House Twitter account.
- Last week, the U.K celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which, according to the UN, has been observed as a day against gender-based violence since 1981. The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, marked the occasion by releasing a video message in support of the cause. During the clip, the duchess implores those watching to be vigilant about spotting signs of domestic violence. Not to mention, she also gave a sneak peek inside her home.
- Earlier this week, we learned that U.K. culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, has a major request of Netflix’s The Crown. In fact, he plans on writing a letter to the show asking them to officially label the series as fictional. Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Dowden revealed that although he believes the show was “beautifully produced,” he worries that viewers could “mistake fiction for fact.”

On Wednesday, it was reported that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are making major changes to their Christmas celebrations this year, breaking a decades-long tradition. While the British royal family is known for spending Christmas together at Her Majesty’s Norfolk home, Sandringham estate, the queen and the prince have opted to forgo said tradition and, instead, will continue to isolate at Windsor Castle.

However, it doesn’t seem like COVID-19 is stopping the royal couple from getting into the holiday spirit. The 94-year-old monarch has already decked out Windsor with decor, including an incredibly impressive Christmas tree. The 20-foot Norwegian spruce was selected and felled by the Forestry Team in Windsor Great Park (part of the Crown Estate), before being transported to Windsor Castle, where it was decorated with hundreds of festive ornaments.
