Here's What the Serpents' Protection Means for Veronica Lodge on ‘Riverdale’

camila mendes riverdale season 3

In a puzzling turn of events, the Serpents are now providing security protection for Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) on Riverdale. So, what does this mean for the character’s daddy issues?

Here’s what you need to know: The midseason premiere aired on the CW last night, and it introduced us to a brand-new relationship between Veronica and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) gang of hoodlums.

It all started when Hiram (Mark Consuelos) demanded that Veronica retrieve a stolen Fabergé egg from Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni (Vanessa Morgan). So, Veronica turns to Jughead, demanding he take care of the deed. He agrees, but only if she’ll let the Serpents come work for her.

Later on, the deal comes in handy when Reggie (Charles Melton) runs into the group of masked men (again). The Serpents swoop in to save the day, and Jughead leaves the men with this warning:

“Veronica Lodge is now under the protection of the Serpents.”

OK, we’re all for Jughead’s attempt at leadership, but this is Hiram Lodge we’re talking about. (You know, the one who drove the show’s main character, Archie, out of town.)

Which is why we think Veronica has triggered a full-blown war between the Serpents and Hiram, and we just hope that F.P. (Skeet Ulrich) doesn’t get caught in the crossfire.

Make us proud, Veronica. Riverdale returns to the CW next Wednesday at 8 p.m.
