Witherspoon captioned the post, “There’s always that one friend in the group.”
The post comes just a few days before the season two finale of Big Little Lies, which (*spoiler alert*) will see the conclusion of the gruesome custody battle between Celeste and her mother-in-law, Mary Louise. Although we don’t know much about the final episode, Shailene Woodley (Jane) recently dropped a major spoiler that changes everything.
“In the beginning of the next episode…all of the women go to visit Perry’s [Alexander Skarsgård] grave and his body’s missing,” she said.
This leaves us with three possibilities: First, was Perry’s body actually buried in the first place? We know the funeral happened, but we don’t remember seeing a physical body.
Second, did the police exhume his remains for further investigation? If so, the Monterey Five are in trouble. And last, did Mary Louise go so mad that she dug up the body herself? Sure, it’s a long shot, but we wouldn’t put it past her.
So, is Streep’s expression foreshadowing what’s to come? We highly doubt it. The season two finale of Big Little Lies airs on Sunday, July 21, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on HBO.
