‘Abbott Elementary’ Creator Quinta Brunson Is Changing the Lives of Teachers with a Heartfelt Gesture

Quinta Brunson is changing the lives of public school teachers one day at a time.

The Abbott Elementary creator has taken the world by storm with her new comedy sitcom. While using the mockumentary style often used in shows like The Office, the ABC series follows a group of dedicated teachers working in a Philadelphia public school. Although they have a limited number of resources available, the educators are determined to see their students succeed.

The show has become an instant success in a short amount of time. And Brunson is using that popularity to help public school teachers in need. Earlier this week, the writer and producer sat down with NPR’s Fresh Air and revealed that she used some of the show’s marketing money to buy school supplies for teachers.

“It’s about being able to make those kinds of decisions that really excite me, things that can really materially help people,” she shared.

This is not the first time the Big Mouth alum has helped teachers in need. This past Monday, Brunson teamed up with Good Morning America to give a Philadelphia teacher a very special surprise.

The GMA crew and Brunson paid a visit to a third-grade teacher named Xiomara Robinson, who works at Benjamin B. Comegys Elementary School. Scholastic donated a whopping $20,000 worth of books for her students.

Wells Fargo decided to give $40,000 to Comegys Elementary, which will go toward AV equipment. Lastly, Staples donated a large number of pens, paper and additional supplies.

Brunson loved the entire experience, saying, “To be a part of something like this because of the show… right now, it’s just, it feels fantastic. I feel humbled.”

Quinta has such a big heart, it’s hard not to love her.
