Umm, Did You Know Queen Elizabeth Is Also Queen of Barbados?

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, Queen of the United Kingdom, Head of the Commonwealth and Defender of the Faith. Add to the list: Queen of Barbados.

Yep, Queen Elizabeth II is also sovereign of the Commonwealth, which consists of 16 realms and 54 member states. In each of her realms she has a distinct title that follows a similar formula: Queen of Belize and her other realms and territories in Belize, etc.

Because of this, ever since Barbados joined the Commonwealth on November 30, 1966, Queen Elizabeth is also officially "Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Barbados and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth."

In honor of National Heroes Day in Barbados, which celebrates the history of ten national heroes who positively changed the nation, the Royal Family Twitter account posted a series of photos of the queen's royal tour of the eastern Caribbean island and paid tribute to "Barbadians at home and abroad" who are celebrating "all the frontline workers of the Barbados COVID-10 response on this day."

The first one documents the queen and Duke of Edinburgh's first visit to the island nation in 1966 during their royal tour of the Caribbean, the same year the country joined the Commonwealth.

The next two photos show subsequent visits of Her Majesty to Barbados. In 1977, the queen returned to Barbados during her Silver Jubilee tour of the Caribbean, and again in 1989 to join the celebrations for the 350th anniversary of the Barbados Parliament.

Head of 16 realms, owner of palaces and sipper of Dubonnet? Man, it's good to be queen.
