Buckingham Palace Issues Surprise Health Update on Queen Camilla Ahead of Today’s Kate Middleton Appearance

Per a statement released by Buckingham Palace, “Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events.” It added, “While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.”

This weekend’s proceedings mark the first major public event for Middleton since announcing she completed chemotherapy in early September. Remembrance Day is an annual U.K. holiday that falls on November 11 and marks the end of World War I, with the added tradition for members of the royal family to wear red poppy brooches for the entire month of November. Camilla and Kate have often been spotted together at Remembrance Day events in the past, but it appears Kate will have to fill the Queen in on the weekend’s events some other time.

The palace has not historically offered much commentary on the royal family, but after the internet went wild with speculation during Kate Middleton’s absence from public events earlier this year, it seems they’ve adjusted to being more open with details. It was reported on Nov. 5 that Queen Camilla had come down with a chest infection shortly after returning from her and King Charles’s royal tour of Australia and Samoa.
