It’s been quite the year for Queen Camilla and her husband, King Charles. Not only did they confront a surprise cancer diagnosis, but they were also met with other health concerns, like when the queen was sidelined with a chest infection. And right when the couple was turning a corner, Queen Camilla shared a heartbreaking update about her beloved rescue dog, Beth.

The queen announced on the royal family’s Instagram page that her Jack Russell Terrier has crossed the rainbow bridge. The royal posted a slideshow featuring rare photos and a heartwarming video in honor of the pup’s life.

The first photo featured Queen Camilla walking with Beth through a grassy field. It was followed by rare pictures of Beth posing with the queen’s other rescue dog, Bluebell, along with a candid snap of Beth licking King Charles’s face.

The slideshow concluded with a video that was taken in 2020, when Queen Camilla brought Beth to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in Old Windsor. The dog stole the show by pulling a velvet blanket and unveiling a plaque at the new facility.

The caption read, “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from @Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire. [paw prints emoji].”

Queen Camilla and her husband, King Charles, rescued Bluebell and Beth from Battersea’s Dog & Cat Home, which has helped more than three million animals find new homes since it was founded in 1860. (The queen has been a patron of the organization since 2017.)

Sending virtual hugs to the queen and king (and Bluebell) as they grieve the loss of Beth.
