On one side of the Atlantic, Prince Harry made headlines for surprising kids with a priceless gift. And on the other side, Prince William received the coveted title of Sexiest Bald Man. (No, I’m not kidding.) With all these distractions, I nearly missed this special detail in Queen Camilla’s outfit.
Queen Camilla Just Hosted a Palace Reception (& I Noticed Something Special About Her Eye-Popping Headpiece)
There's a reason it looks familiar
Last night, the queen hosted a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace alongside her husband, King Charles. I immediately noticed that she was wearing a tiara that hasn’t been seen in over a decade.
As Hello! magazine points out, the headpiece is widely known as the aquamarine ribbon tiara because it features bands of diamonds that are interwoven around five large stones. The tiara was first seen back in 1970 when Queen Elizabeth II wore it during a trip to Canada.
It wasn’t seen in public again until 2012, when Duchess Sophie wore it to a dinner celebrating the wedding of Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg. The Duchess of Edinburgh sported it again in 2013 when she attended the wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden.
Once again, the tiara took a hiatus and was MIA until this most recent outing. Although it was bound to resurface at some point, this was Queen Camilla’s first time wearing the headpiece. Perhaps it’s under new ownership?
The outing came just a few days after the palace announced that the queen’s beloved rescue dog, Beth, had crossed the rainbow bridge. The royal posted a slideshow featuring rare photos and a heartwarming video in honor of the pup’s life.
I could get used to seeing the aquamarine ribbon tiara.
