Here’s How Prince George’s Godmother Is Keeping Princess Diana’s Memory Alive

Just because Prince George never met his grandmother, Princess Diana, doesn’t mean she’s completely absent from his life. In fact, the late royal’s friend has found a way to keep her memory alive.

Julia Samuel (Princess Diana’s friend and godmother to Prince George) appeared on a recent episode of the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast. During the interview, she discussed Prince William’s three children—Prince George (6), Princess Charlotte (5) and Prince Louis (2)—and revealed that she’s passed down one of Diana’s favorite traditions, which includes purchasing the loudest, most difficult toys to assemble.

“I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making,” she said. “I come in slightly tipped by the size of the present that William then has to spend days putting together. And then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that.”

Samuel confirmed it provides a laugh for the entire family, adding, “That makes me laugh, and it makes George laugh.”

While discussing Prince George’s personality, Samuel admitted that he’s taking after his “feisty” late grandmother. “He’s funny and feisty and cheeky, and God, [Diana] would have loved him so much,” she said.

We’re totally stealing this royal family tradition. (Sorry, Aunt Karen.)
