Charles Spencer, 59 (AKA Princess Diana’s younger brother of almost three years), had an exciting announcement for his Instagram followers earlier this week. Along with a snap of a picturesque sunset, the 9th Earl Spencer included a caption with a major tidbit about his professional life: “Last light, last night - time to get some restorative energy after a day at my desk. Tomorrow I hand in the very final version of my new book. To be published in March.”

While the earl was mum about the details (or the title) of the tome, he teased the project even further with his hashtags: “#beachsunset #powerofnature #finaledit #newbookalert #clearingthemind #walkonthebeach #liveworkplay.”
If we had to guess, we'd venture that Spencer’s latest is another historical novel, in the vein of his previous published works.
His most recent book—The White Ship: Conquest, Anarchy and the Wrecking of Henry I's Dream—was published in 2020, and it focused on the sinking of the White Ship in 1120, a catastrophic moment that completely altered English royal history forever.
With the release of The White Ship, Spencer earned impressive sales, reaching the #1 spot for bestsellers in the U.K. on Amazon. In July 2021, the 9th Earl Spencer celebrated this achievement on Instagram, writing, “Forgive me while I pinch myself….”
Princess Diana’s younger brother has an impressive oeuvre of historical novels. He's released such titles as To Catch A King: Charles II's Great Escape (2017) and Killers of the King: The Men Who Dared to Execute Charles I (2014), as well as books about his family ancestry.
For those who follow the earl on social media, they'll know that he often shares historical facts about his family in his posts too, accompanied by vintage photographs (like the snap of his great-grandmother, Margaret, seen below, which he shared a few weeks back).
We'll be anxiously awaiting this next book, Charles.
