Royal aficionados are over the moon for Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who recently announced that they’re expecting their second child. However, how will the new baby affect the British line of succession?
How Will Princess Beatrice's New Baby Affect the Line of Succession? Spoiler, It's Bad News for Princess Eugenie
It’s a domino effect
Currently, Princess Beatrice is ninth in the line of succession, and she’s followed by her daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, at number ten. Although Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, now holds the eleventh position, that will change in 2025 when Princess Beatrice’s second child is born.
Regardless of the gender, Princess Beatrice’s child will assume the eleventh position in the British line of succession. As a result, Princess Eugenie will lose her spot and will be bumped down to number 12. This also affects everyone else who falls behind her, including Eugenie’s two children, August (3) and Ernest (1).
The royal family announced Princess Beatrice’s second pregnancy in a post on Instagram. It featured two photos of the royal couple and their kids, along with the caption: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together early in the new year; a sibling for Wolfie and Sienna.”
It continued, “His Majesty The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Let the royal baby countdown begin.
