It’s been two months since Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, welcomed their second child. I was so distracted by the newborn announcement photo that I nearly missed the sweet connection between the baby and another royal.
I Just Noticed the Hidden Connection Between Princess Beatrice's Daughter & Another Royal
Whoa

You see, Princess Beatrice named her daughter Athena, which is a Greek moniker that means “wise” or “intelligent.” It took me a moment to realize that Princess Beatrice isn’t the only British royal who named their daughter Athena.
Prince William’s cousin, Lady Kitty Spencer, also has a daughter named Athena with her husband, Michael Lewis.
I’m not surprised about the overlap, especially since Spencer is a relative on Princess Diana’s side and, therefore, isn’t directly related to Princess Beatrice. Plus, the moniker has a powerful meaning that resonates with both royal moms.
According to The Bump, “[The name] comes from the Greek goddess Athena, who personifies wisdom, warfare and craftwork—all of which are powerful inspirations for baby.”
Princess Beatrice and Mozzi welcomed little Athena back in January 2025. King Charles's official Instagram account shared the announcement with a caption that read, “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm.”
The statement continued, “The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces. Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.”
On the bright side, Princess Beatrice and Spencer’s daughters can share monogrammed hand-me-downs.
