Following her recent hospitalization for minor wounds and a concussion she sustained from a speculated horse-related accident on her estate, Princess Anne is finally addressing the public with a written statement.

According to Hello! Magazine, the Princess Royal was unable to attend a ceremonial event in Canada, which, according to the outlet, marks the “centenary of the Newfoundland National War Memorial.” Due to her injuries, she is currently recuperating at her Gatcombe Park estate, where she resides with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, and her two children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips.

In the message (shared by the Canadian Governor General on the princess’s behalf), the 73-year-old royal expressed the “deep regret” she feels with her inability to attend the memorial ceremony, which honors the “brave efforts and sacrifices of the members of the Newfoundland Regiment who went into battle on the first day of the Somme.”

The statement continued, “I have fond memories of joining you in 2016, on the 99th occasion that the people of this Island commemorated the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, and I am deeply saddened that I'm unable to join you again, and I send you my warmest best wishes on this special day of commemoration.”

Shortly after Princess Anne was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries, Buckingham Palace released a statement on the official royal family’s website, which read: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.”
