Another British Royal Just Sat for a TV Interview—and I'm Kinda Surprised By Who it Is

Just last week, ITV’s new documentary Tabloids on Trial aired on television screens across the U.K. The tell-all program detailed the illegal techniques some U.K. publications used to access the voicemail accounts of celebrities and public figures, including Prince Harry himself

And now, the royals have shared a brand-new teaser for the latest installment of BBC’s Songs of Praise series, where another member of the British royal family recently sat down for an exclusive interview. (And I will say, I was quite surprised to see who it was.)

The teaser shows British journalist Laura White sitting across from none other than Princess Anne. During the interview, the Princess Royal talks about the Scottish sportsman and Christian missionary, Eric Liddell, who won gold in the 400 meters after refusing to run in the 100 meters at the 1924 Paris Olympics.

As the patron of Eric Liddell 100 (an initiative set up to honor Eric’s legacy through sport and education), Princess Anne also shared how the organization aims to change the lives of young people with resourceful programs that teach them both “humility and sincerity.”

This certainly isn't the first time a royal has appeared for an interview. Obviously, there’s Meghan and Harry’s Oprah sit-downPrince William’s upcoming docuseries and Sarah Ferguson's recent comments on her and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. But a Princess Anne interview seems quite surprising to me, as she’s someone who works hard but isn’t generally the focus of the spotlight.

This interview with the Princess Royal comes over a month after the 73-year-old was hospitalized with a concussion after suffering minor injuries from a speculated horse-riding incident.

Following the accident, Buckingham Palace released a statement (posted on the official royal family website) that read: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

There is no denying it: Princess Anne is back and ready to work.
