Prince William just broke his social media silence for the first time since Prince Philip’s funeral, and we’re all ears.
Yesterday, the Duke of Cambridge, 38, released an official statement on the Twitter account he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. But it wasn’t another tribute to his late grandfather.
The tweet read, “Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community–from the top level to the grassroots–and the values of competition and fairness at its core. I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love.” He even signed it with a personalized “W.”
Prince William is referring to the “Super League” that was proposed for Europe. Although his statement is aimed toward the backlash, we can’t help but wonder if there’s a hidden meaning behind his words.
It all comes down to the opening line: “Now, more than ever.” Is Prince William indirectly calling out his brother, Prince Harry, who abandoned his familial responsibilities when he moved to Montecito with his wife, Meghan Markle? Or could William be referring to his late grandpa, who was a long-time fan of football (soccer to us Americans)?
Regardless, this is the first time a member of the royal family has spoken out on Twitter since the day of Prince Philip’s funeral, when we got a farewell post of sorts. While photos have been circulating, all the official social media accounts have remained silent…until now.
