Prince William just shared a personal message on social media, and he even used his unique sign-off.
Over the weekend, the Prince of Wales, 42, sent a congratulatory message to Billy Monger for breaking the world record in the Ironman World Championship. (FYI, Monger lost both legs to amputation after he crashed during an F4 race in 2017. Since then, he has become a motivational speaker.)
“Well done Billy, inspirational effort,” Prince William wrote. He even signed the note with a “W,” which confirms that it was personally written by the royal himself.
This isn't the first time that Monger has crossed paths with the British royal family. Earlier this year, the former racing driver attended the Gold Award Celebration for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards at Buckingham Palace. Not only did he deliver a powerful speech to the winners, but he also met Prince Edward in person.
Monger shared a video on his personal TikTok page, featuring a montage of footage from his time at the palace. The caption read, “What an unbelievable privilege it was to be asked to speak together at Buckingham palace on behalf of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. A huge congrats to everyone for their amazing achievements! An unforgettable day.”
Some royal aficionados might be surprised by the timing of Prince William’s personal message to Monger, since the royal is currently spending time with his three children—Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6)—during their break from school. If anything, it proves that even Prince William can’t resist checking social media while on holiday.
