This week has been full of exciting royal family news. First, Kate Middleton returned to the same cancer center where she received treatment and revealed that she’s “in remission.” Then, she announced that she and her husband, Prince William, have new royal titles. And now, the Prince of Wales, 42, is adding another role to his resume.

Today, Prince William stepped out for the inaugural Emergency and Critical Care Conference in Birmingham. He not only delivered a powerful speech thanking the first responders, but he also announced his new role as royal patron of the College of Paramedics.

Prince William shared a video on the Instagram account he shares with his wife and wrote, “Paramedics and those in the emergency services are adaptable, multiskilled and crucially, know how to work under pressure. Proudly becoming Patron of @ParamedicsUK. It’s been a privilege to spend time today with first responders whose work saves lives day in, day out.”

The College of Paramedics also celebrated the exciting news on its official Instagram account by sharing a heartfelt post with a link to an official statement. The caption read, “We are honoured to announce that His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales will today become Patron of the College of Paramedics.”

“[Prince William’s] remarkable achievements and unwavering commitment to the health and wellbeing of our members and all emergency service personnel align perfectly with our mission to shape the future of the paramedic profession,” Tracy Nicholls (chief executive of the College of Paramedics) said in the statement. “His unique understanding of the role paramedics play in benefiting society will be instrumental in this partnership.”

The College of Paramedics is lucky to have Prince William.
