Major congratulations are in order because Prince William has just been appointed to a new role that was previously held by his dad, King Charles

Earlier this morning, it was announced that the future king, 42, was named as the new patron of various organizations, including the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association. The exciting news was shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram page

Alongside a montage clip featuring numerous clips of the prince, the caption read, “An honor for The Prince of Wales to take on new patronages and responsibilities with some incredible organizations. Looking forward to supporting their vital work and making a difference together!”

Shortly after Prince William accepted his new role, organizers of the Royal Cornwall Show congratulated the royal dad of three with a written statement that read: “The dedication of His Royal Highness towards environmental conservation and innovation, matches the Association’s commitment to provide a platform for agriculture and farming in Cornwall, and help its development.”

“It is also an honor to receive this patronage in line with His Royal Highness’s position as The Duke of Cornwall,” it continued, “We extend the warmest of welcomes to His Royal Highness, and heartfelt gratitude towards his patronage of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Royal Cornwall Show in the future.”

Before Prince Willaim was appointed as the new patron for the RCAA, King Charles took over the role from his mom, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2002 and held the position until he ascended the throne following his mom’s passing in 2022.

So, why did it take so long for Prince William to be given the new role? In case you weren’t aware, there’s been a royal review of patronages and it has been going on for quite some time in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, which was publicly revealed by Buckingham Palace in May. Due to King Charles’s slimmed-down monarchy (remember that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relinquished their senior royal titles once they stepped down from the royal family in January 2020) there are no longer enough working royals to handle all the patronages and there's a long process of re-assigning them.

Cheers to your brand-new role, Prince William.
