Before Prince William, 41, hits the royal engagement trail once again, the father of three has released a personal message to show his support for military veterans and their families bereaved by suicide—and it seems that he looked to his wife, Kate Middleton, for inspiration.

On Wednesday, April 17, it was revealed that the Prince of Wales wrote the opening statement to the Suicide Bereavement of UK’s newly published At Your Side guides, which provides helpful resources for military veterans and their families affected by suicide.

The future king (who served in the Armed Forces for seven and a half years) wrote, “There is no time limit to processing grief, but [Princess] Catherine and I have met many bereaved families over the years and know the power that comes from sharing experiences, even in the most tragic of circumstances.”

He continued, “At times of national and international crisis we look to our Armed Forces to provide help, support and stability. Members of our Armed Forces never shy away from a challenge—harnessing their skills and working together to help others. But in times of great challenge, it can be tempting to hide one's own needs.”

Prince William concluded the message by using the same words his wife, Princess Catherine, used in the emotional video revealing her cancer diagnosis, which was shared on their joint Instagram account back in March. “Please know that you are not alone,” the prince wrote.

In Princess Catherine’s video, where she talked about receiving medical treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, the 42-year-old royal also offered some words of encouragement to viewers. “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone,” she said in the clip.

A powerful message from the prince.
