Prince William and Kate Middleton Posted a Pic of Prince Harry—But I Noticed Something Major Was Missing

How odd

Earlier this month, Prince William surprised fans when he shared a birthday post for his brother, Prince Harry, on the X account he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. I have several thoughts about the post itself, including how it was a retweet and not an original photo. However, it took me a few days to understand why the birthday tribute was so, well, blah.

As GB News points out, the post was missing something major: a personal signature from the Prince and Princess of Wales. In the past, they have signed their social media messages with their first initials (“W” or “C”) to inform readers that it was, in fact, written by them. But when it comes to Prince Harry’s birthday post, it was missing this key element.

The post (see above) featured a picture of Prince Harry smiling brightly with a caption that read, “Wishing the Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” Since the message isn’t signed with “W,” “C” or “W&C,” that means it was not personally written by the royal couple. And according to reports, it was likely posted by their team.

As I previously mentioned, the Prince and Princess of Wales often sign their social media posts with their initials. Earlier this year, Prince William showed his support for England’s Three Lions team with a post on Instagram.

It read, “We are so proud of you all @england, just one last push to finish the job. Go out there and show the world what you're made of. We believe. W.”

Princess Catherine also congratulated Andy Murray after his final Wimbledon match. “An incredible Wimbledon career comes to an end,” she wrote. “You should be so very proud @andymurray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.”

Perhaps Prince William and Princess Catherine’s team shared the post as a standard practice without the couple’s knowledge. Or maybe they forgot to ask for a personal comment from the Wales duo. Regardless, I really hope the birthday post was an olive branch and not a subtle dig.
