Prince William will be flying solo for this weekend’s plans. (Sorry, Kate Middleton.)
This week, Kensington Palace confirmed the Prince of Wales, 41, will attend the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday, February 18, at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London. The royal will walk the red carpet by himself, while Princess Catherine, 42, stays at home to recover.
In the past, the Prince and Princess of Wales have attended the BAFTAs together. (FYI, Prince William is the president of BAFTA.) However, Princess Catherine’s absence shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, since the royal is recovering from a previously unannounced abdominal surgery.
At the time, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the news. “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery,” it read. “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
Last week, the Princess of Wales departed Windsor Castle for the first time since her surgery to stay at Anmer Hall, which is the Norfolk home she shares with Prince William. The royal couple brought their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, who are on a half-term break from school.
Princess Catherine will be missed at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, but we’ll take any royal sighting we can get.
