This isn't the first time

Prince William, 41, has officially landed in Singapore for the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards, and a video of his arrival was posted to the Instagram account he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton, 41, where he is seen breaking a major royal rule.

In the clip, the Prince of Wales is greeted by Sim Ann, the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Development for Singapore. As the two walk throughout the Jewel Changi Airport, Prince William chats with members of the public and breaks royal protocol multiple times by posing for selfies.

The caption read, “Wonderful to see you all this evening, Singapore! Thank you for hosting us for the third annual #EarthshotPrize here this week. We can’t wait to highlight sustainability successes from across South East Asia (and beyond!) and support innovative solutions to our planet’s greatest challenges.”

This is the prince’s third annual Earthshot Prize Awards, a ceremony which aims to celebrate thinkers who are finding innovative solutions to help our planet. And all the excitement is calling for a little rule-breaking it seems.

Meghan Markle revealed back in 2017 that members of the royal family are discouraged from taking selfies. But why are they a no-no? Well, they aren’t officially prohibited, but royal experts have pointed out that they're frowned upon because they’re less personal than a face-to-face interaction and they can also be problematic for security reasons (you have to get close to a royal to take one, after all).

However, this isn't the first time Prince William has broken this royal rule. In fact, he was seen taking selfies with kids at a BEST—Be a Better You charity event back in September, a mere two weeks after his wife was seen taking a selfie too.

At this point, we think it's fair to assume the royals are trying to phase this rule out.
