Prince William is breaking his silence to address false speculation surrounding Kate Middleton’s health following her planned abdominal surgery in January.

While his wife is in recovery, the Prince of Wales has made several public appearances in the past few weeks as one of the few working royals of the British monarchy. However, rumors about Princess Catherine’s well-being began circulating after the prince was unable to attend King Constantine of Greece’s memorial service due to “personal matters.”

When asked about the rumors and theories regarding the princess’s health, a spokesman for the 41-year-old royal exclusively told People, “His focus is on his work and not on social media.”

Prince William’s comment comes a week after a representative for Princess Catherine, 42, released a statement to E! News, which addressed the speculation about her health and address when she will return to royal duties

“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we'd only be providing significant updates,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “That guidance stands.”

The rep was referring to the previous statement made by Kensington Palace a few months back. In the surprise announcement (released on January 17), the palace detailed when the princess is expected to return to scheduled royal engagements. “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery,” it read.

The statement continued, “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

During this time, Princess Catherine will continue to recover at Windsor Castle. Last month, the mother of three briefly left Windsor Castle to stay at Anmer Hall, which is the Norfolk home she shares with her husband.

Here’s to Prince William addressing the issue head-on.
