Yesterday, Prince Harry appeared in a TV documentary about phone hacking and shared his fears over bringing wife Meghan Markle back to the U.K.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, was interviewed in Tabloids on Trial, the tell-all program exposed the illegal techniques some journalists employed to access the voicemail accounts of celebrities and public figures (including Prince Harry himself). In the documentary, the royal revealed that he would not bring his wife back to the UK over fears for safety.

He said: “Look at what has happened in the last four years to me, my wife and my family, right?

“It’s still dangerous. And all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read... and whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is.

“And these are things that are a genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to California in June 2020 and no longer maintain an official residence in the UK. While Prince Harry has returned to his home country multiple times since, including for his father's coronation in May 2023, the Duchess of Sussex has made only a few visits. Her most recent trip was in September 2022 for Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

In the documentary, the Duke of Sussex went on to say that he felt “vindicated” after he won against the U.K. tabloids in court. Back in December, the father of two won a legal battle against the tabloid press. In the end, it was proven that he, in fact, was a victim of phone hacking.

“Yeh I did feel vindicated. Phone hacking has been going on for a long time. The defendants claim for it all to be historical,” Prince Harry said. “Well, there’s a huge amount coming to light now that the British public especially simply have no idea about.”
