From throwback family portraits to archaeological discoveries, royal fans have gotten several glimpses of Althorp House in Northamptonshire, thanks to Charles Spencer's Instagram account. However, just two days before the anniversary of his sister's death, he hosted an unexpected special guest.

According to People magazine, Prince Harry, 39, made a surprise visit to the U.K. to attend the memorial service for his late uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, on August 29. During his stay, the Duke of Sussex was hosted by none other than his uncle, Spencer, at Princess Diana's childhood home. Details regarding the length of his stay haven't been revealed, but I do know that Lord Robert Fellowes's service was also attended by Prince William and Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

Prince Harry's decision to visit Althorp feels intentional, given that it's Princess Diana's childhood home and her final resting place. (She's currently buried on an island within the Round Oval Lake on the estate.)

In his tell-all memoir, Spare, the prince opened up about bringing his wife, Meghan Markle, to Princess Diana's gravesite for the first time in 2022. He wrote, "At long last I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum. We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave."

The royal continued, "Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity. Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone. I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for. Clarity, she said. And guidance."

To mark the 27th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, the 9th Earl Spencer paid tribute to his sister on Instagram by posting a collection of vintage photos and old newspaper clippings. These included a throwback of Diana and her parents during her christening, as well as a childhood pic of Diana playing in shorts.

One fan commented, "She will always be the People's Princess. The queen who cared for people from all walks of life." Another wrote, "Diana’s life was short but her impact was huge and her legacy lives on. May she be resting in peace at the beautiful Althorp."
