A week has gone by since Prince Harry took a flight from California to the U.K. to see his father, King Charles, after learning about his cancer diagnosis. And now, the Duke of Sussex is opening up about his brief visit with the monarch at Clarence House, which is where the king currently resides.

While visiting the site for the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, the royal spare spoke to Good Morning America about his reaction to the news. After learning about the king’s health, Harry knew that he had to see his father as soon as possible, telling ABC News reporter Will Reeve, “I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could.”

When Reeve asked the 39-year-old royal what the London trip meant to him emotionally, the father of two revealed, “Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

King Charles’s cancer diagnosis was made public on February 5. In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the team noted that the unspecified cancer was discovered after the monarch was admitted to The London Clinic to receive treatment for his enlarged prostate.

Harry’s relationship with the royal family, especially his father and older brother Prince William, has been quite strained ever since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties in early 2020.

We’re just glad Prince Harry and King Charles had a chance to reunite and talk.
