Meghan Markle Says She & Harry Are ‘Like Salt & Pepper’ When It Comes to Parenting: ‘We Always Move Together’

In addition to leading charity events, hosting podcasts, developing TV shows and more, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also have the job of being parents to two young kids—Archie Harrison, 3, and Lilibet Diana, 1.

While talking with Allison P. Davis for The Cut, Markle revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex apparently work well together as a team. While discussing the lessons they teach Archie, Markle recalled something she learned from a friend's mom as a young kid, which is that “salt and pepper are always passed together,” as Davis writes.

Markle then added, “[Her mom] said, ‘You never move one without the other.’ That’s me and Harry. We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together.” And it helps that the pair have Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, near their home in Montecito too.

Markle also opened up about the main lesson they've been trying to teach their eldest child. Markle said, “We always tell [Archie]: ‘Manners make the man. Manners, manners, manners, manners, manners.’”

But that wasn't all we learned about young Archie in the new cover story. As Davis followed around Markle for a day, she saw the duchess pick up the toddler from preschool, where he came running up to Markle saying, “Momma, Momma, Momma.”

And it sounds like Archie is already making tons of friends at his school, where Davis reports he “brings a week’s worth of freshly picked fruit for his fellow classmates and enjoys playing a ‘roaring’ game at recess.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also trying to teach the toddler how to give back, like how Davis reports that they prepared kits to pass out to unhoused people that have “water and peanut-butter crackers and granola bars.”

We think Archie and Lilibet will grow up to be just as giving as their parents.
