In his bombshell memoir Spare, Prince Harry, 39, addressed rumors about how his brother, Prince William, obtained his wife Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, calling the claims “absolute rubbish.” But that’s not the only piece of gossip the Duke of Sussex debunked in the tell-all book.

In an excerpt shared by Buzzfeed News, the Duke of Sussex addressed the gossip surrounding his paternity. For many years, it’s been speculated that Harry is not King Charles’s biological child; instead, the rumors claimed that Harry is the son of Princess Diana’s former lover, Major James Hewitt. (FYI, Hewitt has red hair.)

Prince Harry set the record straight, writing in the book, “Never mind that my mother didn’t meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born, the story was simply too good to drop.”

Harry also debunked multiple headlines and articles that stated his father “sat him down” and “reassured” him that Hewitt wasn’t his real dad. “To this day, nearly every biography of me, every longish profile in a paper or magazine, touches on Major Hewitt, treats the prospect of his paternity with some seriousness, including a description of the moment Pa finally sat me down for a proper heart-to-heart, reassuring me that Major Hewitt wasn’t my real father,” the royal spare revealed.

The Duke of Sussex added, “Vivid scene, poignant, moving and wholly made up.” Harry shared that if the king ever had anything to say about the paternity rumors, he simply “kept them to himself.”

However, Harry is not the only one to come out and address these false paternity rumors. Back in 2017, Hewitt denied the claims, as he has done on multiple occasions. In addition, per E! News, the former officer suggests the rumors continue to circulate to “sell papers.” He added, “It’s worse for him probably, poor chap.”

Good for Harry for putting that rumor to rest.
