Prince Charles Just Brought a Young Award Winner to Tears

Grab the tissues, ladies and gents, because Prince Charles is pulling at our heartstrings.

This week, Clarence House shared an uplifting video on its official Instagram account, featuring the moment the Prince of Wales surprised a young Pride of Britain winner, Hassan Alkhawam.

In the video, Alkhawam is greeted by a camera crew when he enters the Morning Room at Clarence House. Through tears, he asks, “Am I the winner?” Prince Charles confirms that he won the Young Achiever Award before offering him a seat. Alkhawam responds, “I can’t even stand up.”

The royal proceeds to congratulate the winner, saying, “I can’t tell you how proud it makes me of the kind of achievements, against all the odds, all the challenges you’ve had to face.” To which Alkhawam says, “There’s been some crazy moments, I don’t know how to describe it, but thank you very much.”

The caption described the hardships that Alkhawam and his family endured prior to this moment. “24-year-old Hassan and his family fled their home in Syria due to the war, and began a new life in Northern Ireland,” it read. “Since arriving in the country, Hassan has transformed his life with support from The Prince’s Trust, now studying Software Engineering at university and working in a supermarket during the pandemic. Hassan also volunteers with vulnerable members of his community, having been inspired by the support he received by The Prince’s Trust.”

The video was likely taken earlier this week, because Alkhawam was honored during last night’s Pride of Britain Awards. The ceremony was designed to “celebrate the achievements of truly remarkable people who make our world a better place.”

Talk about a well-deserved honor.
