Peacock Drops First Trailer for New ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Reboot Series

Attention, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans: The hit ’90s comedy is getting a major reboot over at Peacock, but don't expect quite the same number of laughs.

This new version, titled Bel-Air, will be tonally different from the original, as viewers are offered a “dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.” Newcomer Jabari Banks will be filling the role previously played by Will Smith, however Smith will act as an executive producer on the series.

The idea for a more dramatic retelling of Fresh Prince first came about in 2019, when a fan of the series, Morgan Cooper, wrote and directed a trailer around the idea that he uploaded to YouTube. The film caught the eye of various producers, which led to a bidding war where Peacock ultimately won and gave the series an immediate 2-season order.

And now that we finally have our first look at the series, it definitely seems worth all the hype.

“This town will try to make you forget who you are and where you came from,” says Will's friend, Jazz (Jordan L. Jones), at the beginning of the clip. “Don't let it do that.”

Throughout the trailer, we see Will struggling with his past, while also trying to navigate the complicated emotions evoked by his new life. Set in modern-day America, viewers will follow Will as he deals with his two worlds colliding.

Alongside Banks, Bel-Air stars Adrian Holmes, Olly Sholotan, Cassandra Freeman, Coco Jones, Jimmy Akingbola and more. Morgan Cooper will serve as director, writer and executive producer on the series.

All we know is we can't wait to see this new spin on the Fresh Prince. The series will begin streaming on Peacock on February 13.
