The Oscars Red Carpet Fixed a Giant Mistake From Last Year

And took notes from the Emmys, too

A big pat on the back is in order for the 2024 Academy Awards production designers. Congrats on taking notes and sticking to what works.

Lest we forget the beigification of last year’s pre-ceremony red carpet, which was notably not even red, but a light “Champagne” hue. It was a last-minute change that required placing a rush order for 50,000 feet of off-white carpeting that was only destined to turn brown the minute it was rolled out.

This year, the pre-show carpet returned to its expected crimson hue, and we feel confident that no one will regret the decision.

Perhaps we can all thank the nightmare that was the 2024 Emmys red carpet? It was also not red, but a sad shade of gray that looked like the concrete floor of an empty warehouse. To gild the lily, it was accented with a backdrop of “FOX” and “EMMYS” on repeat in distracting shades of bright yellow and black.

We’re not claiming to be awards show set designers, but even we know that the biggest night in Hollywood is not the time or place to be experimenting with the decor. After all, we’re here to see celebs fall and critique their fashion choices as if we know what we’re talking about.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. And if it can’t be cleaned by a Bissell Little Green Machine…well, you get the idea.
