After the 96th Academy Awards, viewers on social media had a lot to say after actress Michelle Yeoh handed Emma Stone’s Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence, who then gave the award to the Best Actress winner. Some argued that the Everything Everywhere All at Once star snubbed Stone by giving her award to Lawrence to hand over. But according to Yeoh, that’s not what happened at all.

Yesterday on Instagram, the 61-year-old (who made history as the first-ever Asian woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress last year) posted a slideshow filled with photos taken at the 2024 Oscars. The first photo showed Yeoh hugging Stone after she announced her as the winner.

In the caption, The Brothers Sun alum set the record straight about the misunderstanding, writing, “Congratulations Emma!! I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer!! She reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis [red heart and twinkling star emoji] always there for each other!! [kissy face emoji].”

As for the comments section, Yeoh’s followers thanked her for explaining the situation. One person wrote, “Thank you for the clarification! That was the nicest gesture by you to make Emma's big moment even more special by including her best friend Jennifer Lawrence. Thank you, Michelle!!! You are such a wonderful human being and talented actress.” Another commenter said,  “Omg crying I already thought that’s why you handed the Oscar to Jen. That’s the sweetest gesture ever.”

And if that weren’t enough, there were plenty more photos snapped backstage, with Yeoh and Stone sharing another hug. (Clearly, there are no hard feelings.)

Thanks for clarifying!
