Meryl Streep just made her grand debut in Only Murders in the Building. (Well, sorta.)
Tonight, the 95th annual Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles. A brand-new trailer for season 3 of the Hulu series aired during the ceremony, and it featured a never-before-seen glimpse of the show’s newest cast member.
In the trailer, Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short) and Charles (Steve Martin) are faced with a brand-new mystery. After a brief montage, the clip teases a “surprise” before cutting to Streep sitting at a table read. “Oh, my god! It’s me,” she says.
We first learned back in January that Streep was joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building season 3. It all started when Gomez posted a video on social media confirming that Streep will appear in the show’s third season.
In the video, Gomez explained that she was on the set of Only Murders in the Building season 3 with her co-stars, Short and Martin. She panned the camera to show other cast members—like Paul Rudd—before returning to the original trio.
“Hey, guys! We’re on set,” Gomez said. “What are we shooting? Season 3. The gang’s all here. Could this honestly get any better?”
Rudd chimed in, “Well, I do think it can get a little bit better.” Right on cue, Streep popped up in the background.
