Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Latest Instagram Contains a Never-Before-Seen Pic from Their Date in Botswana

In the latest Instagram post from the Sussexes’ official account, royal stans got another peek inside the personal (and oft hidden) lives of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. (And we’re living for this account and these intimate moments…)

As the fourth photo in the above slideshow (@SussexRoyal's fourth post ever) about Prince Harry attending the premiere of the Netflix conservation documentary Our Planet, the couple shared a never-before-seen photo of their date in Botswana in 2017.

The caption gave a bit of background about the pic, which shows the duke and duchess (before they were even bestowed those titles, back when they first started dating) securing a tracking collar around an elephant. (Royals! Their dates are nothing like ours...)

"Prince Harry’s long time commitment to this cause as well as a glimpse into the work he and The Duchess of Sussex did in 2017," the caption states. "Their Royal Highnesses travelled to Botswana to assist Dr. Mike Chase of Elephants Without Borders in equipping a bull elephant with a satellite collar."

The caption continues with an explanation for the collar: Approximately 100 elephants are poached or killed every day for their ivory tusks. The satellite collar allows conservationists to track their migratory patterns and protect them from human wildlife conflict.

According to the post, the elephant pictured was sedated for ten minutes before he was up and back with his herd (the next slide in the Instagram shows a video of the elephant getting back on his feet).

Prince Harry and Markle met back in 2016, and went to Botswana for their third date. During the couple’s official engagement announcement in November 2017, Harry recalled the few days they spent in Africa.

“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” he said. “So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”

Keep 'em comin', @SussexRoyal Instagram. We can't get enough.
