Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have done it again!
No, they didn't just hug Beyoncé or kick off another charity campaign with the Cambridges. They did, however, continue their monthly streak of unfollowing everyone on Instagram. They then followed 15 organizations dedicated to making positive changes in their community and the world.
Unlike other months where the Sussexes have switched up the accounts they follow to spotlight certain causes they champion (June was for LGBTQ+ awareness and Pride month, while July shone a spotlight on environmental organizations), August's follows came by way of suggestions from followers and fans.
The @SussexRoyal account posted a call to action last week. The photo asked "Who is your force for change?" underneath the Sussex cypher, and the caption asked their 9.3 million followers to "please add your suggestions into the comments section: someone you look up to, the organization doing amazing work that we should all be following, an account that inspires you to be and do better (or that simply makes you feel good), or the handle that brims with optimism for a brighter tomorrow."
More than 49K comments were added to the post, and the Sussexes just revealed why they selected the 15 organizations that they did.
"Many of you have suggested that we use this month as an opportunity to highlight lesser known organisations and shine a light on those working hard behind the scenes that may not get the level of attention that they so rightly deserve," the caption reads.
"These accounts showcase those persevering at the grassroots level, connecting our global community through a shared lens of giving back and helping one another. We were so happy to learn about them and are now able to share them with you!"
These organizations are: @RafikiCastle, @BeyondBlueOfficial, @ArtofHopeGlobal, @LovetheOceans, @LionGuardians_, @GlobalWellnessDay, @TinyTickers, @EarthDayNetwork, @Plan_UK, @Children, @PawsitiveChangeProgram, @FWMission, @BeesCause, @WavesforChange and @BlinkNowOrg.
Unsurprisingly, a ton of followers commented asking the Sussexes to follow their own personal accounts. Hey, it was worth a shot.
