Meghan Markle’s entrée into the British royal family marked several historic milestones. Now, her and Prince Harry’s baby boy just crossed off another major first as well.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son is officially the first mixed-race person to be born into the British royal family.
Robert Lacey, historian to The Crown, dished on the significant cultural moment (and the show’s recent season two DVD release) to PureWow exclusively, saying, “There’s a lot of excitement over here [in the U.K.] because [he or she] will be the first ever mixed-race baby.”
He went on to explain, “We’ve had mixed-nationality babies before obviously, but this will be a new generation of mixed-race children.”
