Meghan Markle and Oprah Just Reunited and Cameras Caught a Striking (and Special) Moment Between the Two

It was a star-studded affair

The last time I saw Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey together was in 2021, when the latter did an intense, tell-all interview with the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry. Now, the royal is teaming up with Winfrey on a much lighter note, thanks to the recent launch of a cozy new bookstore.

The store in question is called Godmothers, which is just a few minutes away from the Sussexes' home. Several stars stopped by to celebrate the store's opening weekend, and writer Elizabeth Holmes shared a few highlights from the event on her Instagram account, including snaps of Markle, Harry and Oprah engaging with guests.

The bookstore's official account also shared the same photos taken by photographer Sara Prince and wrote, "Named by none other than Oprah herself, Godmothers officially opened its doors this weekend in Summerland, CA surrounded by our brilliant community. For three unforgettable days (Sept 6-8), we celebrated the power of storytelling with dear friends Oprah Winfrey, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Shaka Senghor, Whitney Wolfe Herd, MILCK, and more!"

In the first slide, the duke and duchess pose alongside the bookstore's cofounders, Jennifer Walsh and Victoria Jackson. And in the second, Markle is seen hugging Portia De Rossi while Harry chats with an unseen attendee. Others include shots of Jane Lynch conversing with guests, Markle addressing the crowd and, my personal favorite, Markle embracing Oprah.

Believe it or not, the name of the bookstore has a special connection to Prince Harry's memoir, Spare. According to Town and Country, the idea originated at Prince Harry's Beverly Hills book party. When he thanked Winfrey, Jackson and Walsh for their support, he referred to them as his three “fairy godmothers.” So, when the co-founders were working on their new store, Winfrey said, “There’s really only one thing you can name it: Godmothers.”

Now, visitors can see his best-selling memoir on the store's “Local Authors” display, as well as Meghan’s children’s book, The Bench.

Per Town and Country, during the opening event, Markle got candid about how bookstores have been a source of comfort for her. She said, “For me, sneaking to New York five years ago was a really big deal. I was still so uncomfortable being out in the world. The safety of what I was craving, I knew I could find in a bookstore.”

The mom of two also thanked the bookstore's founders for “holding the space for so many people to feel seen through the pages, either in laughter, in grief, in feeling less alone.”

Throughout the event, Meghan was deeply invested, and it's reported that she paid close attention to all the speakers—including Winfrey's conversations. However, she had to dash immediately after the festivities, saying, “I’ve got to make dinner for the kids.”

Here's hoping we'll see another Meghan and Oprah reunion in the future.
